Degradation of Women in Islam
In Bangladesh, it is possible to openly demean women in the name of Islam and still continue without consequence
No one tears down these posters because the majority of people in this country are Muslim. Islam views women in this way; in the Quran and Hadith, women are described as representations of the devil, as sources of misfortune, as ill-omened, as the root of corruption, as superior objects of consumption, as crooked, as like horses, as equivalent to black dogs, as intellectually deficient—many such things are said. In a patriarchal social system, Islamist men also enjoy this. What is the point of blaming the person who pasted this poster? Instead, question the one who described women to men in this way—ask why he was so inhumane toward women!
According to Islam, an unveiled woman is like a banana without its peel—no one wants it because flies and insects sit on it; it has no value in the market—this is also said by Muslim men. And if a woman uses perfume and passes by a gathering of men, then she is considered a prostitute—this too is the claim in Islam. You will call yourself moderate and say that millions of clerics and scholars do not understand Islam, that religious seminaries do not understand Islam! And you, an ignorant Facebook “moderate,” claim to understand Islam!
“Allah only wishes to remove impurity from you and to purify you completely.” (Surah Al-Ahzab: 33)
The primary dwelling place of a woman is her home. Generally, remaining within the household is deemed appropriate for women. Therefore, Allah has instructed women to stay inside their homes. In this regard, He says, “Stay in your homes and do not display yourselves like the women of the former times of ignorance.” (Surah Al-Ahzab: 33)
“And let them not display their beauty except to their husbands, fathers, fathers-in-law, sons, husbands’ sons, brothers, brothers’ sons, sisters’ sons, their women, those whom their right hands possess, male attendants without sexual desire, or children who are unaware of women’s private aspects. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.” (Surah An-Nur: 31)
[In Islam, men are allowed not only up to four wives but also numerous female slaves, which essentially refers to sex slaves. This may be beyond your imagination, but it is presented as true.]
“A woman is something to be concealed; when she goes out uncovered, Satan looks at her.” (Tirmidhi: 1173)
“Every eye commits adultery. And if a woman wears perfume and passes by a gathering (of men), then she is a prostitute.” Even going to prayer in this condition is forbidden. The Prophet said, “If a woman uses perfume and goes to the mosque, her prayer will not be accepted until she performs a full bath.” (Sahih al-Jami as-Saghir with additions: 270)
“For women, modesty (purdah) is an important rule. Allah has made modesty obligatory to protect women’s honor, dignity, and respect. Modesty is a woman’s beauty, her honor, and her protection. An unveiled woman is like a banana without its peel—no one wants it because flies and insects sit on it. It has no value in the market. Similarly, when a woman goes outside without modesty, she has no value in society.”(https://hadithbd.com/books/fullbook/?book=119)
